In 2003 began the work of securing the Line of Control and over 200 km of the international border to make sure there was no infiltration. But as NDTV reports, the border fence at the LoC is very vulnerable to weather conditions which makes the Army put in extra effort to guard.
At the Line of Control at 11,000 feet, a section of the border fence has been damaged by snow and avalanche.
"Whenever the fence breaches due to snow, it's reported immediately and our repair teams mend it almost immediately, so that terrorists cannot take advantage," said Major Rahul Salathia, Company Commander.
The stretch of the LoC at Anganpathri has always been vulnerable to infiltration. The Pir Panjal forests offer a great cover.
The fence behind has been damaged due to snow last winters, and that makes the job of infiltrators even easier - precisely the reason why these army jawans are putting in extra efforts to guard the LoC.
The army says the fence is a barrier, both physical and psychological, for infiltrators. The work began in 2003, wherein 700 km of the LoC and 200 km of the international border was fenced.
It has drastically reduced infiltration. But rough weather can damage the fence anytime, and the army has to be ever ready to ensure infiltrators do not slip by.
