Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 7 Voting Highlights: Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Voting Ends, Last Phase Records 59.5% Provisonal Turnout

Elections 2024 Phase 7 Voting Highlights: Polling began at 7am and ended at 6pm.

Lok Sabha Election Phase 7 Highlights: Polling for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to voters who turned up as the constituency he is fighting from, Varanasi, underwent polls today. 

A provisional voter turnout of 59.5% was recorded across seven states and Chandigarh today. Bihar recorded the lowest voter turnout of over 50.9% while Jharkhand recorded the highest at 70%.

Voting  began across 57 constituencies spanning seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to decide the fates of 904 candidates in the fray. The campaigning for the polls concluded on Thursday with top leaders holding massive rallies across the country.

Thirteen seats in both Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha, four in Himachal Pradesh, three in Jharkhand and the lone Lok Sabha seat in Chandigarh went to polls today.

Apart from PM Modi, who is contesting from Varanasi, other top BJP candidates include Union Minister Anurag Thakur from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur, Ravi Shankar Prasad from Bihar's Patna Sahib and actor Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi.

PM Modi's Thank You Note As Voting Ends For Lok Sabha Polls
As polling for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha polls concluded, PM Modi expressed gratitude to people who turned up to vote. 

"India has voted! A heartfelt thank you to all those who exercised their franchise. Their active participation is the cornerstone of our democracy. Their commitment and dedication ensures that the democratic spirit thrives in our nation. I would also like to specially appreciate India's Nari Shakti and Yuva Shakti. Their strong presence at the polls is a very encouraging sign," PM Modi said in a series of posts on X.

Polling for Lok Sabha elections 2024 concluded today after the final phase of elections was over. Voters in a total of 57 seats across seven states and one Union Territory voted today, including in Varanasi from where PM Modi is seeking a third comsecutive term.

In Punjab's Kalu Wala Village On Indo-Pak Border, Voters Ferried To Polling Station In Boats
In Punjab's Kalu Wala village, which is located on India-Pakistan border, voters were brought to the polling booth by boat to cast their ballots. A BSF team was deployed to ensure the same.

"Encircled by the Sutlej River on three sides and the international border on the fourth, the polling booth at Kalu Wala village in Ferozepur district is quite unique. A BSF unit was deployed to safely and conveniently ferry voters from Kalu Wala village to their polling station," read a post on X by the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab.

World's Highest Polling Station In Himachal, Tashigang, Sees 79% Turnout
Located at the height of 15,256 feet above sea level, in the Himachal Pradesh's Spiti Valley, world's highest polling station Tashigang saw the voter turnout of 79 per cent in the final phase of voting, a poll official said, according to news agency IANS. 

The polling station comes under Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. Out of the 62 registered voters, 49 exercised their franchise.

"Thirteen voters could not exercise their franchise as they were out of the village," a state government official told IANS over the phone.

"Deeply Humbled" By Voters Who Turned Up: Poll Body After Phase 7 Voting
The Election Commission of India has said that it was "deeply humbled" by the voters who turned up for polling despite their challenges and dilmmas. The remarks come after the final phase of voting of the 6-week long Lok Sabha polls. 

"Indian voters have given their most cherished right to vote for the constitution of the 18th Lok Sabha. Indian democracy and Indian elections have again done the magic. The great Indian voters, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, socio-economic and educational background have done it once again," the poll body said.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and the EC family are "deeply humbled by the voters, who made it to the polling station overcoming many challenges and dilemmas they might have," it said.

Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Mallikarjun Kharge Says INDIA Bloc Will Win 295 Seats
After INDIA bloc meet just ahead of exit polls, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge appeared confident of big victory. He said that the INDIA bloc will win at least 295 seats. 

"There should be no confusion among the people because of exit polls, we want to tell the truth to the people of the country - INDIA bloc will win at least 295 seats. This number has come after talking to all the parties," he said.

To secure a majority in Lok Sabha, an alliance or a party needs to win 272 seats out of 543.

Exclusive: Congress Chief's Prediction For Party In 2024 Lok Sabha Polls
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge today said that the party was confident that along with other INDIA bloc partners, will stop the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from winning a third consecutive term. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Mr Kharge said that the Congress is hoping to win 128 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

"From the reports we have received, we are sure that we will stop BJP from coming back to power. We believe that Congress has already crossed the 100-seat mark and are hoping to win 128 seats," Mr Kharge told NDTV.

Several Opposition parties joined hands ahead of the elections to defeat BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking about the performance of the INDIA alliance, Mr Kharge said, "We (INDIA alliance) have performed very well together.
