Congress leader Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath on Tuesday lost from the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat, his family bastion in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission data for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections showed.
In Chhindwara, BJP's Vivek Bunty Sahu defeated Mr Nath by more than 1,13 lakh votes. While Mr Sahu received 6,44,738 votes, Mr Nath got 5,31,120.
This is the second time since 1952 that the BJP has won the long-standing Congress citadel Chhindwara. The party won the Chhindwara seat for the first time when former chief minister and senior BJP leader Sunderlal Patwa defeated Kamal Nath in 1997 by-elections.

The ruling BJP also registered a sweeping victory in Madhya Pradesh and clinched all 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state with Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia, Faggan Singh Kulaste, and Virendra Kumar emerging victorious.
It became the first political party to achieve such a feat after 40 years in Madhya Pradesh. In the undivided Madhya Pradesh, the Congress had won all 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in 1984.
Earlier in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 28 of the 29 seats, with the exception of Chhindwara.
