A fleet of NaMo merchandise stores on wheels was flagged off by BJP chief Amit Shah at the party's headquarters in central Delhi today. Items and collectibles like cups, masks and hoodies themed on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most of them in bright saffron paint, are being carted on the modified tempos across the country, just weeks before the Lok Sabha elections.
The party says the proceeds from the sale of the NaMo merchandise will be funneled into the Namami Gange project that works to clean up the Ganga. The project was launched by the Modi government in 2014 with a budget of Rs 20,000 crore.
People at areas where the colourful NaMo merchandise tempos may not visit can download the official NaMo app on their phones and order the items there.
On its official Twitter handle, NaMo Merchandise regularly tweets photos of people who have bought the PM Modi-themed products. Some t-shirts have words like "NaMo Again!" - asking people to support PM Modi and his party in the Lok Sabha elections. The NaMo Merchandise handle today tweeted a photo of a baby wearing a saffron baseball cap: "Monika is showing off her belief in NaMo with her adorable son and NaMo Again Cap."
In January, PM Modi appealed for "direct feedback" from citizens through a survey launched on his app. The detailed survey, spread across nine tabs, asked people to rate the government, local BJP leaders and even whether they think the "mahagatbandhan" in their area will work.
"I want your direct feedback through the survey on the NaMo app. Your feedback matters. Your feedback on various issues will help us take important decisions," PM Modi said in a video appeal posted on Facebook and Twitter. "Will you all fill that survey and also urge others to do so," the prime minister asked.
