Lok Sabha Elections 2019: The Congress general secretary will be ending her trip in Varanasi.
New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra kicked off her party's campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh today by offering prayers at the Lette Hanuman temple near Sangam. During her three-day visit, Ms Gandhi will cover a distance of 100-km by boat in Ganga from Allahabad to Varanasi -- the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, hopping from one temple to another.
Ms Gandhi Ganga cruise is being seen by political observers as an effort to navigate her party out of a nearly three-decade long wilderness in the state. The Congress general secretary in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh offered prayers on the banks of Sangam -- a confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati.
Ms Gandhi commenced her journey from Prayagraj today and will conclude at Varanasi's Assi Ghat and Dashashwamedh ghat on Wednesday evening. The Congress general secretary will be ending her trip in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency, a day before the festival of Holi.

The Congress in Telangana on Monday appointed senior leaders as in-charges for the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader M Bhatti Vikramarka would be in-charge for Khammam Lok Sabha seat, while MLA D Sridhar Babu would be in-charge for Peddapalli,Congress sources said.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also expected to focus on campaigning against the BJP government's claim of having cleaned up the Ganga river through her steamer ride and interactions. Ms Gandhi will also meet the family of CRPF soldier Mahesh Raj Yadav who lost his life in the Pulwama terror attack. On Wednesday, she will visit the ancestral house of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Varanasi.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's last stop will be Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency. She will cover a distance of 140 kilometres. On her boat ride, she will make pit-stops and interact with people who live by the river and seek support for the party for the Lok Sabha polls. Many of these communities come under the other backward castes or scheduled castes groupings and together, they make up a significant chunk of voters.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi will begin his Karnataka campaign with a public meeting in Kalburagi. This will be his first rally in the state after the Lok Sabha polling dates were announced. Congress President will also be addressing the Parivartana Rally in Gulbarga and will be interacting with entrepreneurs in Bengaluru.
Before beginning the Ganga yatra, Priyanka Gandhi offered prayers at Sangam in Prayagraj.
