Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan arrives in New Delhi.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan may today visit the Delhi residence of Akshay Singh, the journalist who died on Saturday while reporting on the Vyapam scam in his state.
Mr Chouhan is in Delhi for a meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss an event to be held in Bhopal in September.
The Chief Minister had, on Tuesday, requested the state High Court to order a CBI inquiry into the Vyapam recruitment scam, after at least 35 people linked to it have died.
Akshay Singh was No. 35 on the list of dead. While conducting an interview with the family of a young woman who had died in 2012, Akshay Singh had begun foaming at the mouth and soon collapsed.
The Delhi-based journalist's death brought the scam and the alarming number of deaths, many mysterious, of people linked to it, into national focus.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also met Akshay Singh's family today.
On Sunday, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were among those who attended the journalist's funeral. Their parties have demanded an independent probe based outside Madhya Pradesh into his death.
Mr Kejriwal visited Akshay Singh's residence in East Delhi this morning along with his deputy Manish Sisodia.
Mr Sisodia said after the visit, "The whole family is in shock. The financial condition of the family is also weak as Akshay was the only bread earner. We told them that we will help their family. If they need, we will give a government job to someone in the family, that would be his sister."
While a post-mortem was conducted on Akshay Singh's body in Madhya Pradesh, his viscera samples have been sent for tests to Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences or AIIMS, which said today that it would send them to a central forensic laboratory to test for poisoning or disease.
