The police at the home of Madhya Pradesh Governor's son Shailesh Yadav, who died this morning
Lucknow: The son of the Madhya Pradesh governor, an accused in a multi-crore exam scam, was found dead in his family home in Lucknow, the police said on Wednesday.
Shailesh Yadav, 42, was found on the floor of his room last night, but the family allegedly did not inform the police. The post-mortem report says the cause of death cannot be ascertained.
The post mortem report has not confirmed it; it says the cause of death "can't be ascertained," say sources.
The police were reportedly tipped off about the death by their intelligence unit. Shailesh's wife, younger son and sister-in-law were in the house when he died, say sources.
He was named in an FIR or police complaint in the scam centred on government officials accepting bribes for handing out jobs in departments like Health and Education.
The scam dating back to 2008 saw job-seekers using imposters to take recruitment exams on their behalf.
Shailesh Yadav was accused of taking money to get 10 candidates selected. He was summoned twice by investigators but did not appear.
His father Ram Naresh Yadav, the state governor since 2011, has been in the ICU for the past few days over breathing problems.
The governor was also named in an FIR recently and has faced demands for his resignation. He has been accused of taking money from candidates applying to be forest guards in 2013. He allegedly used his letterhead to recommend name of candidates.
Around 70 people have been named in the case.
Opposition Congress leaders like Digivijaya Singh allege that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was part of the conspiracy and that crucial evidence has been destroyed to protect him. Mr Chouhan has refuted those charges.
