Umer Madni, believed to be a recruiter for the Lashkar-e-Toiba, has been brought back to Delhi. He was arrested in South Delhi on June 4 and was taken by the Delhi police's Special Cell to Patna for further investigations.
During questioning, Madni had revealed that he had recruited and trained a resident of Aligarh, whom he had handed over fake Indian currency notes to give to another operative, Ahmed, in Patna.
The arrest of Madni is considered crucial as police officials claim that he was instrumental in setting up a terror module in Bangladesh and developing that country as a transit point for sending "selected youths" for training at terrorist camps in Pakistan.
Investigators had also said earlier that they have come across some email addresses in the diaries seized from him.
Born in Madhubani Bihar, Madni moved to Nepal with his father and soon opened two madarasas. He also opened a tour and travel agency and even a surgical shop as covers. But his real purpose was to recruit potentials for jehad and send them for training to Pakistan.
