In a setback to Jayalalithaa government, Madras High Court has directed it to implement uniform syllabus in schools this year.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had scrapped Uniform Syllabus launched by the DMK government citing poor quality. Now, government will have to distribute books to schools before July 22.
Tamil Nadu government had planned to dump text books worth around Rs 200 crore.
The Jayalalithaa government will appeal in the Supreme Court.
The state government's decision to cancel uniform syllabus had led to more than a crore children going to schools without text books.
