A lookout notice against Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, has been set aside by the Madras High Court in what could be seen as a relief of sorts for the businessman.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose, however, made it clear that the order will not impact the case for which the lookout notice was issued to restrict his movement.
In June 2016, the Central Bureau of Investigation issued the lookout notice to all airports alleging that Karti Chidambaram and five of his business associates allegedly received kickbacks from INX Media.
The CBI alleged that the kickbacks were meant for approval of receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore when P Chidambaram was the finance minister.
The Madras High Court had stayed the lookout circular in August the same year, saying it was "unwarranted" when the CBI's summons to Karti Chidambaram was active.
Later, the Supreme Court reversed the high court's order and directed the high court to bring the case to a logical conclusion.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court allowed Karti Chidambaram to travel to the US, the UK and France from July 23 to 31 for business purpose.
The order will also bring relief to his associates CBN Reddy, Mohanan Rajesh, Ravi Viswanathan and S Bhaskararaman.
