Mumbai, Maharashtra: To cater to the growing need for urban housing, the Maharashtra government is planning to bring a 'Housing for All' policy soon, which will be an improvised, practical and a better version of the Centre's policy of 'Housing for All by 2022', said officials.
Nearly 50 per cent of the state's population lives in urban areas, making its requirements quite different when compared to the rest of the country. The proposal will be brought before the cabinet soon for approval, said a senior official.
The policy will have a self-certification, that the beneficiary does not own a house anywhere in the country. If the declaration provided by the beneficiary is proved 'false', there is also provision for punishment.
The amount of contribution by a beneficiary to get a house under the scheme would be lower compared to the Centre's policy. Officials said that the government would give subsidy on the home loan interest.
The National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Housing for All by 2022' scheme in June, targeted to provide affordable homes to people living in urban areas.
