Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today hailed as a "milestone in nation's progress" the demonetisation of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Historic and courageous decision on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to stop corruption and flow of black money. *Hats off* Hon @narendramodi ji !," the CM tweeted.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das today hailed the decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against corruption, black money and fake notes.
Mr Das said the Prime Minister had said about rooting out black money and today's decision would be a big step towards that, an official release said.
It was necessary to take big steps to get the economy on the track, the decision would help flush out black money, he said.
In a major assault on blackmoney and corruption, the Prime Minister on Tuesday night announced scrapping of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes with effect from midnight, making them invalid for transaction. Meanwhile, hailing centre's "intention" behind demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes, Shiv Sena on Tuesday said it hoped that the common man does not get adversely affected by the decision.
"The intention behind the government's decision seems to be good, however, the issue is very complex. We need to wait and watch to see how does common man get affected to it. We hope that middle class people are not adversely affected by the decision," Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe told PTI.
Welcoming the decision, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya tweeted: "@narendramodi daring decision to scrap 500 1000 Notes this will certainly curb corruption & @blackmoney circulation & boost to economy."
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said that while the party welcomes the Centre's stand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should tell the people when will they get Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts as promised.
"If Modi government has taken the decision to curb black money transactions, we welcome the move. But the government should understand that middle class people, labourers, farmers use Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes. Amount is not is crores but definitely thousands.
"These people should not be inconvenienced. At the same time, people want to know what happened to the black money of foreign investors and when would they get Rs 15 lakhs as promised to them," he said.
