Shilpa Basavraj Hiremath of Latur scored 98.61 per cent marks in SSC exams to emerge overall topper in Maharashtra, while Sonali Shantrama Chavan (96.46%), a student of Saraswati Secondary School, Thane, stood first in Mumbai division.
Shefali Pradeep Mahadalkar (96.30%), a student of Saraswati Vidyalaya High School, Thane, stood second in the division, while Sanket Deepak Patil (96.30%) of Saint Anthony Convent High School, Vasai, came third in the exams results of which were announced on Thursday.
The overall pass percentage in the state was 78.66, while the figure for Mumbai division was 85.30.
In the backward class category in the division, Anjali Anant Jadhav, a student of A P Goregaonkar Engineering School, Goregaon, topped the list with 95.84 per cent marks.
Sonal Ramprakash Singh (84.15%), of Canoca Night School, Mahim, stood first among the night school students.
In the handicapped category, Navneet Bajaj Merol, a student of Sane Guruji English Medium School, Dadar, was the topper with 94.61 per cent marks.
The exams were conducted in March by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and High Secondary Education.
Like previous year, this time also, girls outwitted boys. The total pass percentage of girls was 82.1 as against boys' 78.66 per cent.
Out of the eight divisions in the state, Nashik registered the highest pass percentage of 85 per cent, while the lowest was 73.65 per cent in Kolhapur division.
From this year, SSC board will award Rs 10,000 in cash to Marathi medium student scoring highest marks in the language paper in the state, SSC Chairman Vijaysheela Sardesai said.
Similarly, an amount of Rs 5000 will be awarded to English medium student securing highest marks in Marathi subject in the state, she said.

Amraoti- Suresh - Shruti Ashok 97.69 per cent (Bharat

Nasik- Ahire - Kumudini Ramdas 95.53 per cent (Anandibai Bankat Girls High School, Chalisgaon) and Palatshah Gaurav Rajesh 95.53 (Pratap Vidya Mandir Chodpa) jointly stood first.
