Aurangabad/Mumbai:
The Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies in Maharashtra, Abdul Sattar, was caught on tape beating up an alleged party worker in Aurangabad. The incident occurred at a Congress-NCP meeting to finalise distribution of tickets for the forthcoming Municipal elections.
The minister is accused of attacking a man who abused him over the manner in which tickets were being distributed.
Sattar has defended his action. "If someone abuses me, if someone abuses my party which to me is like my mother do you think I'll keep quiet?" he said.
But Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said he's expressed regret. "It is unfortunate. He has expressed regret. I have asked him to submit in writing what happened there."
Both Sattar and the party deny the man injured is a party worker and accuse the Shiv Sena of orchestrating the incident, a charge that party has denied.
Back in Aurangabad, Mohammed Mustaq the alleged Congressman, continues to insist that he's with the party.

"Why was I the only one targetted? Others were also shouting," he said, adding that he has not filed a police complaint as he is 'waiting for Sattarbhai to come and meet me'.
The Opposition is demanding action against Sattar, but with the party and the person involved showing little signs of actually taking the case to court that may be easier demanded than done.
