Panaji: Nitish Rane, whose father Narayan Rane is a minister in Maharashtra, has been arrested after attacking three people and vandalising public property after his car was stopped at a toll booth plaza in Northern Goa.
Eight men from his entourage have also been arrested with him on charges of assault and rioting.
Mr Rane, 31, and his supporters were allegedly enraged that they had been asked to pay the tax.
In August, Mr Rane, whose father is a Congressman and the Industries Minister for Maharashtra, was pilloried for his response to writer Shobhaa De on Twitter. She asked satirically if politicians would consider statehood for Mumbai after the creation of Telangan as India's 29th state.
Mr Rane had tweeted in response, "Rather than twitter, Shoba De shud say the same thing on the streets of Mumbai openly after which she won't be left with any 'shoba' (Grace) forever."
"Shobhaa De should be made to just shut up," he told NDTV later, convinced that he "did the right thing."
