Maharashtra Policeman Arrested For Murder Of Son-In-Law

Sachin Simolia and Shivani got married on April 1.

A sub-inspector has been arrested for the alleged dishonour killing of his son-in-law in Maharashtra's Washin district. Three other members of his family have also been taken into custody.

The incident took place in April but came to light only after the young man's mother raised an alarm. She filed a missing persons complaint in May, but nothing was moving so she held a protest outside the local police station.

22-year-old Sachin Simolia and Tukaram Dhoke's 19-year-old daughter Shivani were married on April 1. But Tukaram Dhoke was not in favour of the inter-caste marriage.

They invited the couple home on pretext of a family function. The residents of Amravati city, his daughter and son-in-law went there on April 24.

A day later, Sachin Simolia was taken to the fields where he was bludgeoned to death and his body was dumped in a field and set on fire.

Sachin Simolia's mother filed a complaint with the local police in May saying he was missing and sat on a protest outside the police station a fortnight ago. Soon after, a senior policeman was tasked with the investigation.

Tukaram Dhoke, his son Tushar and nephew Pravin have confessed to the murder, the police said.
