In a dramatic rescue act, two linesmen, stuck mid-air for more than an hour over a swollen river in Palghar district of Maharashtra, were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force. At least 138 people have died in rain-related incidents, including multiple landslides, in the state. Several districts - primarily the Konkan region - have been receiving incessant rain over the past few days."

Maharashtra Rain Update: Panchganga River Level Dips As Rain Intensity Reduces In Kolhapur
The rain intensity in flood-hit Kolhapur district in Maharashtra reduced on Saturday afternoon, leading to a slight fall in the water level of the Panchganga river, officials said.

However, at 55.2 feet, the river is still flowing way above the danger mark, which is 43 feet.

The water level of the Panchganga river was recorded at 55.2 feet at the Rajaram weir on Saturday noon. It had reached 56 feet at 6 AM, officials said, adding the intensity of rains has reduced since this morning.

Maharashtra Rain Update: NDRF Teams Strength Enhanced For Flood Rescue Ops

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has enhanced the number of its teams from 18 to 26 for undertaking rescue operations in the coastal areas of Maharashtra that have been hit by heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides.

A spokesperson for the federal contingency force said these teams are being deployed in Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur and Nagpur for rescue and relief work after consultation with the state administration.

The eight new teams have been airlifted by an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft from an NDRF base in Odisha, he said.

Goa Rain - Traffic On South Western Railway Remains Affected Due To Landslides, Derailment

Traffic on the South Western Railway route continues to remain affected for the second consecutive day today, a day after two landslides occurred on the Goa-Karnataka border besides the derailment of a train in the section, an official said.

The landslides took place on Friday morning in the ghat (hilly) section of Hubballi division of South Western Railway - between Dudhsagar and Sonaulim, and between Caranzol and Dudhsagar.

A senior official of the South Western Railway said that a train running between Mangaluru Junction and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, which had been diverted from the Konkan Railway route due to overflowing Vashishti river near Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, derailed on the South Western Railway's Dudhsagar-Sonaulim section in Goa on Friday morning.



The South Western Railway said it had already taken several contingency measures before the start of the rainy season. These measures were taken at suitable stations for any exigency in the ghat section during heavy rainfall, it said.

"As part that, JCB and other machines, and wagon loaded with boulders were kept ready at Castle Rock, Tinaighat and Kulem. They have been pressed into service to the spot of landslide along with the tram of trained technicians to carry out restoration of track/train services at the earliest," the South Western Railway said.

Goa's Vasco railway police inspector Rajan Nigale said that the three scheduled trains on the South Western Railway have been diverted/cancelled or diverted for a day though the debris on the track has been cleared.
