Maharashtra woman tries to kill self after she was allegedly gang-raped

Mumbai: A woman tried to commit suicide after she was allegedly gang-raped in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra two days back.

She was allegedly gang-raped at Walki village in Rahata Tehsil. On October 24, two men had allegedly raped the woman, who was working in the fields, and fled in their car, the woman told police. She told the police she recognised the men as they were from her village.

When the woman narrated the incident to her husband, he asked her not to report the incident, following which she allegedly consumed poison. She was rushed to the local hospital where she narrated the incident to the police. A case has been registered.

Investigating officer, Bhagwat Jaybhay, said, "We have arrested both the accused within 24 hours of being informed about the incident. We have got seven days custody of the accused and we are investigating the case."

In Thane, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men on October 23. According to her police statement, the men picked her up after she got off a bus and drove her to an isolated area in a car where they raped her. The men have been arrested.

"We have arrested the three accused within two hours of getting to know of the incident. Two of the accused are farmers. One of the accused drives a dumper," Assistant Commissioner of Police Liaqat Nadaf told reporters.

The woman has alleged that one of the men was harassing her for the past one year.
