Prime Minister Narendra Modi today wished people on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. "Greetings on the special occasion of Mahashivratri. Har Har Mahadev!": PM Modi tweeted. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister greeted Kashmiri Pandits "Herath Mubarak" on Shivratri. Social media is abuzz with wishes, photos, gifs and messages on Mahashivratri.  "Heartiest greetings to all countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri. May Mahadev give happiness, peace and prosperity in everyone's life," wrote Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan posted on twitter, "Shiva is the symbol of truth, beauty and infinity! Shiva is the symbol of our being...".

Devotees of Lord Shiva across the world are celebrating Mahashivratri today. The 'Great Night of Lord Shiva' is one of the most important festivals for Hindus. Mahashivratri is observed on the 'Chaturdashi Krishna Paksha' or 14th day of the New Moon phase in the month of 'Phalguna' according to the Hindu calendar.
