Malaysian badminton coach quarantined in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Malaysian badminton coach has been quarantined as a precautionary measure against swine flu. Doctors have said when he was screened at the airport, he had no symptoms and now has a sore throat. He was admitted to Andhra Pradesh Chest Hospital on Monday night and his throat swab samples were sent by Tuesday morning's flight to Delhi.

If the coach tests positive, the World Badminton Championships underway in Hyderabad will be hit badly. He has already been administered prophylactic treatment of Tamiflu.

Players who have been closely associated with the coach are also going to be screened. As of now, Apollo is looking after health requirements at the stadium.

Government is now planning to set up cell to increase awareness among spectators/visitors to look out for symptoms. They believe screening doesn't help because people can develop symptoms after they are screened whereas with awareness, they would watch out and seek help if required.

Team managers are being called in for a meeting on Tuesday afternoon where they will be briefed on what to look out for that whoever has symptoms should be brought in for testing/screening.

Total number of swine flu cases in Andhra Pradesh have gone up to 76 on Tuesday morning after two tests were confirmed positive. As of now, there are four positive confirmed swine flu cases in hospital and rest have been discharged.

Forty-four samples test results are awaited. Sixteen are under quarantine at chest hospital.
