Kolkata: Under focused attack in Parliament from the Opposition, Trinamool Congress leader and Rail Minister Mamata Banerjee was not present in House to defend herself on Tuesday. She has suffered chest injuries in a motor accident last night while on her way back from a rally in Lalgarh.

It was left to her long-standing aide Sudip Bandopadhyay to rise in her defense as the Opposition demanded an explanation on Mamata's alleged support to Maoists at her Lalgarh rally.

Sudip told the House, "Mamata is trying to bring peace...the whole House should support her... the CPM is trying to win back lost ground...she is not well and we have seen how her car was hit by a truck yesterday...it was a conspiracy against us."

Mamata has been advised rest and shall not be attending Parliament till doctors say she is fit to do so.

A lorry hit a car in Mamata Banerjee's convoy on Monday evening at Kolaghat bridge in East Midnapore district when she was returning to the city after her meeting in Maoist-affected Lalgarh.
