West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that she would announce her next course of action against the Modi government's demonetisation move on Monday even as accused the Centre of pursuing a "dicriminatory" policy against her state by not circulating new Rs 500 notes in Kolkata.
"I will discuss the matter with other political parties and on Monday I will announce my programme. It is a constitutional breakdown and financial emergency in the country", the TMC chief said.
"Let them arrest us. We will fight the battle on the street. I don't want any election politics now. I want to save the people", she said.
Ms Banerjee along with her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal had demonstrated in front of RBI office in New Delhi on Thursday last and set a deadline of three days to the Modi government to roll back the demonetisation decision.
The TMC chief who visited the RBI office here said that all (opposition) parties should work together to save the people who were passing through "immense hardship" due to the Centre's decision to scrap Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes.
She also spoke to the RBI regional director Rekha Warriar and urged her to ensure that cash is available at all ATMs and Banks.
"I told her to ensure that cash is available at all the banks and ATMs. Common people should not face harrassment. Don't say that you are trying. Because the word 'trying' is a vague word. It is a word used to shield negligence and incompetence. I am not blaming you. Where from will you give notes, if the Centre has not provided?" Ms Banerjee told the RBI Regional Director.
The Chief Minister accused the Centre of making "discrimination" against the state by not circulating the new Rs 500 notes in Kolkata.
"They have sent 500 rupees notes to Rajasthan. But they are not sending the 500 rupees notes to Bengal. The Central government has totally failed to act. Rural India is dying, they don't use card. What will they do? The whole of rural India is crying, farmers are crying. If food is not available what will the common people eat? Plastic?" Ms Banerjee said.
She claimed that three persons have died in the state because of the demonetisation.
Meanwhile, TMC Vice-President Mukul Roy said that the party would hit the streets on the demonetisation issue from November 23 when a procession would be taken out from College square to Dorina crossing in the metropolis.
Similar procession would be taken out in all the districts on November 24 and in the blocks on the following day, he said.
