Midnapore:
Assembly elections in West Bengal are still some months away but Buddhadeb Bhattacharya seemed to kick off his campaign in the Maoist-hit West Midnapore district on Saturday.
At a public rally in Midnapore town, about 40 km from Lalgarh, the Chief Minister hit out at the Trinamool Congress for supporting the Maoists who, he said, had killed scores of CPM supporters in the district in the last one and a half years.
Buddhadeb said the Trinamool would not succeed in their campaign to protect the Maoists. He also accused Mamata Banerjee of lying about the culprits of the Jnaneshwari disaster and about the attempt on her life on August 9.
"The Trinamool is working overtime to save the Maoists. Trinamool is saying to them, don't worry, we are here to save you. We are telling the Trinamool, you cannot save the Maoists," said Buddhadeb.
