Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is furious with the Congress for tying up with the Left for the Siliguri mayor poll.

Mamata said she will visit Siliguri soon and apologise to the people who wanted a Congress-Trinamool municipal body.

"I will go to Siliguri and beg forgiveness from the people. The Congress has betrayed the people of Siliguri. We are supporting Manmohan Singh in Delhi. Congress should have supported us too. I will discuss the future of the alliance with Congress with my workers," she said.

The Trinamool chief also said that the Congress has betrayed the people of Siliguri and that she expected the Congress to support her party.

Mamata has made it clear she won't discuss the issue with the Congress, but has said that she will discuss with her party workers the future of her party's alliance with the Congress.

Trinamool and Congress had won 15 seats each in the civic body polls but could not compromise on the mayor's post. So the Congress turned to the Left while Trinamool decided to sit in the opposition.

The fact is that the Siliguri situation couldn't have happened without the blessings of the Congress and Left high commands. Considering that this could happen again in Delhi or 2011's West Bengal Assembly polls, the Congress-Trinamool alliance is now certainly under the scanner.
