The Trinamool is not beating about the bush any more, Mamata Banerjee had hinted at it the day she arrived in Delhi, saying the prime minister himself should intervene to stop the post-poll violence in West Bengal.
"We have made no demands. We are representing the common man and will continue fighting for him. We only want a stable government," said Mamata Banerjee, President, Trinamool Congress.
In Kolkata, the Left Front dismissed the demands. The Left got 43.30 per cent votes while the Congress, Trinamool, SUCI combine got 45.67 per cent. So, no question, it says, of the government quitting or President's Rule being imposed.
In this sort of case, Article 356 cannot be applied. Therefore, on which basis TMC has said in Delhi I can't say," said Biman Bose, Chairman, Left Front.
Assembly elections are due in West Bengal in 2011. But Mamata wants the polls brought forward and the Left knows she will spare no effort to keep it under pressure until then.
