Singur:
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee lead a padyatra today at Singur -- the site of the abandoned Tata Nano factory in Bengal. This, to raise her old demand for the return of 400 acres to farmers who had parted with their land unwillingly.
The refusal by the Buddhadeb government and Tata Motors to return the land had let to the exit of Tata Motors from Singur in October 2008.
Mamata walked a distance of about 4.5 km down National Highway 2 along the boundary wall of the factory with her supporters to voice her renewed demand.
Her padyatra comes four days after Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee held a public meeting at Singur, five kilometres from the factory site. At the meeting, the chief minister appealed to unwilling farmers to cooperate so that the total land alloted to the Tatas could be used for industry.
