Kolkata: CPI(M) today exuded confidence that it will bag more than 200 seats and claimed Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will become "politically insignificant" after Assembly elections in the state.
CPI(M) state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said the alliance of his party and the Congress would go on to win more than 200 seats, enough for Mamata Banerjee to cease to remain politically significant after the results were declared.
"She (Mamata Banerjee) and her party would no longer be significantly relevant after the election results were announced," Mr Mishra said told a press conference in Kolkata.
Mr Mishra also urged the people to put up a united resistance against post-poll violence perpetrated by the Trinamool Congress in many places after the fifth phase of polling.
"The TMC has started to unleash a reign of terror in many places against our cadres, their family members and even children. They are not even sparing children. The people will unite and resist the atrocity," Mr Mishra said.
