The accused had threatened Narmada Sahu, 45, to withdraw the police complaint
Bhopal:
A man who tried to protect his daughter from sexual harassment and went to the police, was burnt alive allegedly by the accused man and his friends in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh. Narmada Sahu, 45, died on Sunday.
The police say Narmada Sahu's daughter was routinely harassed and groped by Sachin Sahu, a neighbour. On August 15, Narmada went to the police and filed a complaint. This led to daily threats and even more harassment for his family.
For months, Sachin and his friends Ramkumar and Rajkumar kept trying to get Narmada to withdraw his complaint but he remained firm.
The police said on Saturday, the trio threatened to set the family on fire.
Yesterday, Sachin, Rajkumar and Ramkumar barged into Narmada's home, allegedly poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
Hearing screams, neighbours rushed in and tried to put out the flames. Narmada was first taken to a local hospital and then the Damoh district hospital, where he died of severe burns.
Senior police officer Vivek Agarwaal said the attackers have been arrested.
