Jaipur: The anti-terrorism squad of the Rajasthan Police has arrested a man for allegedly financing and recruiting for the banned terror organisation ISIS.
Accused Jamil Ahemad, an MBA graduate, had been working for a finance company in the UAE since 2003. Police say the 41-year-old accused was in touch with ISIS operatives for the past two years through social media and was motivating people in the UAE, Bangladesh and India to send funds for ISIS.
"The accused identified as Jamil Ahemad (41) works in Dubai. He is a sympathiser and operative of ISIS. He had been raising funds from India, Bangladesh and UAE and transferring to the ISIS for the last two years through hawala," senior ATS officer Umesh Mishra said.
He was trailed from Mumbai, where his family lives, to his home town in Sikar in Rajasthan where he was arrested on Tuesday.
"He was on our radar for some time. He came to India recently and visited his ancestral house in Fatehpur eight days back. He was picked up by us interrogation and was placed under arrest yesterday," Mr Mishra told news agency Press Trust of India.
