Sangrur: A Dalit man from a village in Punjab was allegedly beaten to death on Friday afternoon for gatecrashing a marriage party.
Jarnail Singh, 40, was attending the wedding function at Gaga village in Sangrur district with some friends when he reportedly had an altercation with the organisers, who then attacked him.
"While I was returning from school, I saw my father was being beaten up by a mob," the victim's son told police and added that "by the time I could bring anyone to help rescue him, he was badly injured." The man succumbed to injuries even before he could be taken to hospital.
The police say two men who allegedly led the mob have been arrested and booked for murder.
There is tension in the village. Police presence has been increased.
