Srinagar:
A man handed over to Crime Brach by Jammu and Kahsmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has died in custody.
61-year-old Haji Yousuf was handed over to the Crime Branch at Mr Abdullah's residence yesterday for alleged corruption and blackmail.
Mr Yousuf, an acquaintance to Omar and his father Farooq Abdullah, was taken into custody after it he allegedly took Rs 1.5 crore from two National Conference leaders with a promise to make them a Minister and a Member of Legislatively Council respectively.
The two leaders Mohammad Yousuf and Salam Reshi had compained about the matter to Mr Abdullah, who had called all the three involved to his residence on Thursday. He then handed them over to the Crime Branch.
Sources have told NDTV that a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge has been ordered by the Government to investigate the reasons for Mr Haji Yousuf's death.
