Delhi 'Lawyer' Exposed By RTI For Giving Bar Council Fake Documents In 2014

A man who became an advocate after allegedly submitting forged LLB documents at the Bar Council of Delhi in 2014 has been arrested with the help of an RTI query that revealed that he had failed his second and third-year law examinations.

In a complaint, one Jai Prakash Gupta alleged that he sought information under the Right To Information (RTI) Act from the Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, regarding the authenticity of the LLB degree of an advocate named Sumit Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram said on Wednesday.

According to the RTI reply, Sumit Sharma had passed only the first year in 2010 from Vrindavan Law College in Mathura and failed the second and third-year examinations, he said.

The Vrindavan Law College is affiliated with the BR Ambedkar University.

Jai Prakash Gupta further alleged that Sharma has submitted the false, forged and fabricated mark sheets of LLB's second and third years and provisional certificate of the university to the bar and obtained the enrolment certificate in 2014, the DCP said.

During the inquiry, it was found that Sharma arranged forged LLB mark sheets for the second and third year and a provisional certificate dated July 3, 2014, and using these documents, he enrolled himself in the bar and obtained an enrolment number, police said.

A case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged 1[document or electronic record]), and 34 (common intention) was registered in Anand Vihar police station on the complaint of one Jai Prakash Gupta, they said.

The case was registered at Anand Vihar police station and during an investigation, Sharma was arrested further investigation into the matter is in progress, police added.
