Bhubaneswar: In a turn of fate, a man who had allegedly given a contract to kill his sister was murdered by the same group of hired criminals, police said.
The incident took place in Odisha's Angul district where police arrested three of the four accused involved in the killing of 30-year-old Samar Das. His body was recovered from railway tracks on September 7.
Quoting the confession statements of the alleged hired killers who were arrested yesterday, the police said Das had hired the gang of four killers to murder his sister - 35-year-old Namita Das.
Das was angry over his sister Namita who entered into an alleged illicit relationship with his brother Abhimanyu Das.
"The three arrested persons have confessed to their crime. However, the prime accused in the case is absconding," said Angul police station inspector-in-charge Subha Narayana Muduli.
In his bid to eliminate Namita, Samar had fixed the deal at Rs 3 lakh to kill her. However, the four men failed to execute the murder despite two attempts, police said.
Since Samar was getting desperate, they told him that they had already killed her. They called him to come with the money and see the body near a railway track. When Samar went there on a motorcycle, they hacked him to death and fled, Muduli told reporters.
The arrested persons admitted to have taken Rs 52,000 from Samar before killing him.
