John David, the man who ragged his junior in a Tamil Nadu college and then killed him and cut up his body, surrendered today at the Cuddalore Central jail.
He was given the life sentence by the Supreme Court.
John was working as a Manager at an IT company in Chennai.
Navarasu, a first year student at the Muthaiyah Medical College, was staying in the college hostel in 1996, when he disappeared. Different parts of his body were recovered over the next few days. His head had been severed and dumped in a lake by a senior, John David, who was also a hosteller.
Navarasu's father, K Ponnuswamy, had served as the Vice Chancellor of Madras University.
David, who was then 19-years-old, put Navarasu's torso into a suitcase and boarded a bus. He abandoned the suitcase on the road.
On November 18, David confessed and helped the police to recover different parts of Navarasu's body.
While David had been acquitted by the Madras High Court, the Tamil Nadu government appealed against its verdict in the Supreme Court, which accepted that David took Navarasu to his room and killed him there.
