Actor Malvi Malhotra was stabbed allegedly by an acquaintance for turning down his proposal.
Mumbai: Yogeshkumar Mahipal Singh, the man who had fled after stabbing TV actor Malvi Malhotra three times with a knife for rejecting his marriage proposal on Monday, has been traced to a hospital and detained, the Mumbai Police said.
Singh had met with an accident after stabbing the actor and was admitted to a local hospital in neighbouring Palghar district, some 100 km from the crime scene in Versova, the Police said.
He will be arrested once he is discharged, they added.
The man is an acquaintance of Ms Malhotra's, and has been booked for stalking her and attempting to murder her.
Yogeshkumar Mahipal Singh had allegedly stabbed actor Malvi Malhotra in her abdomen and both the arms on Monday night when she was going home from a café in Mumbai's Versova area.
According to the Ms Malhotra's police statement, Singh approached her in his luxury car, stopped her and questioned why she was not speaking with him.
"I do not want to talk to you. Why have you been stalking me? Don't follow me," the actor said turning down his advances, states the FIR (first information report). This allegedly infuriated Singh, who stabbed the woman and sped away.
Ms Malhotra was rushed to a private hospital, where she is recovering.
As per the actor's police statement, she and Singh had known each other for a year, and were friends. However, Singh wanted to marry her, but she had turned him down and stopped speaking with him, the actor told the police.
