A man in Bengal's Malda was arrested for holding arms and ammunition in a special raid
Malda, West Bengal:
A 35-year-old man was arrested today with arms and ammunition in a special raid carried out in view of beefed-up security on Republic Day eve from Sripur village here, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Safirul Sheikh from Sripur under Kaliachak police station area.
"Four improvised pipe guns, four cartridges, one .7 mm pistol and six cartridges were seized from his possession," Malda Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh said.
"He was carrying the arms and ammunition in a plastic bag," he said.
Police is interrogating him, an officer said.
