Manipur blockade still on

Manipur: Even the government in Manipur is struggling to find ways to end the two month old blockade.

However, a young Manipuri group living outside the state has arrived with medical aid to bridge the divide and help the people. An English professor in Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi, Sumitra and Ronid a student pursuing a PhD program are in Manipur to help people caught with the two month old Eco blockade.

We are a group of Manipuris who stay outside the state and we thought as the blockade has been going on for a long period, we can raise some funds and send medical suppliments to the state accompanied with some beneficiaries to aid. We have some members of conflict widows, a group of women amongst the worst affected by the blockade. While enquiring from one of the widow about the problems she faced, she replied, faced lots of problems, and she doesn't have any skills to raise funds for the upbringing of her child with such rising prices", said Sumitra.

"There has been a divide between Nagas and Meiteis but it should go seeing the members of widows conflict forum I saw Nagas, Kukis, Meiteis and Meitei Pangals all were there n u can look at one problem."  said Ronid.

Nothing has changed on the ground in Manipur. The two month old Eco blockade imposed on its highways by Naga students groups is still very much in place. Neither the government nor the protesting groups seem interested in breaking the deadlock.
