In his last edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' radio programme of the year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the resilience of the people amid the coronavirus pandemic and the country's shift towards indigenous products.
"The coronavirus brought many obstacles in the world regarding the supply chain, but we took new lessons from every crisis," PM Modi said, adding that the spirit of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" was seen in the year gone by.
PM Modi said in most letters he received, people mentioned India's togetherness in times of lockdown. He had earlier sought people's view on 2020, and also what they look forward to in the coming year, for his address.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Sikh saint Guru Govind Singh, urging the nation not to "squander the sacrifices" made by him. "The martyrdom made by Guru Govind Singh's family did a great work of protecting our civilisation. We are indebted to this martyrdom," he said.
Meanwhile, farmers protesting against the Centre's new farm sector laws clanged thalis and raised slogans amid the Mann ki Baat broadcast this morning. The protest took place in Rohtak in BJP-ruled Haryana.
