Palamu, Jharkhand:
The Naxals attacked a police station in Palamu, Jharkhand on Sunday. Police forces retaliated, but there are no reports of any casualties so far.
The attack follows a two-day Bharat bandh declared by the Naxals on Saturday in protest against the killing of top Maoist leader Kishanji in West Bengal last month.
Earlier, Naxals blew up railway tracks between Gomia and Dumri railway stations of the East Central Railway in Bokaro district in Jharkhand. Another group of the left wing extremists blasted tracks between Hehegara and Chhipadohar railway stations in Latehar district, police sources said in Latehar.
The Maoists had also attacked the convoy of independent MP and former assembly speaker from Jharkhand Inder Singh Namdhari on Saturday. Namdhahri escaped the attack but 11 others died in the blast.
This week is being celebrated as the 11th anniversary of raising of the PLGA. The PLGA is the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army - the armed faction of the CPI (Maoist). Violence had been expected this week and states had been warned. The PLGA is believed to have asked its cadre to step up recruitment and attacks in various states.
