Maoists defy the law in West Bengal, go on rampage

Kolkata:

It's close to total anarchy in parts of West Bengal where Maoists are on a violent attacking spree. And their violence is totally unchecked.

NDTV followed the story to see mobs of Maoists smashing houses of CPM members, people being killed next to the smashed homes, and a dead body that lied there for 48 hours.

This violence is happening in a village called Dharampur in Lalgarh, which is less than 200 kilometres from Kolkata.  The Maoists first turned violent in Nandigram where they worked closely with the Trinamool Congress.

NDTV reporter present at the scene, said that the Maoists smashed the home of the CPM zonal secretary Anuj Pandey with hammer while villagers beat drums and danced to encourage the violent squad of Maoists.

They later torched the Ramgarh police outpost as also police camps at Beratikri and Dharmapur and also demolished a camp at Kaima from where the CRPF withdrew, the sources said.

The Maoists have launched a violent agitation against the police since November last year when West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and two then union ministers Ramvilas Paswan and Jitindra Prasad narrowly escaped a landmine blast at Salboni in the district.
