Former Press Council Chairman Markandey Katju was denounced in Parliament today for his blog describing Mahatma Gandhi as a "British agent."
In the Rajya Sabha, members adopted a unanimous resolution condemning the comments of the former Supreme Court judge on Gandhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
"I submit that Gandhi was objectively a British agent who did great harm to India," Justice Katju had said in his blog on Tuesday.
He said Gandhi "successfully diverted the freedom struggle from this revolutionary direction to a harmless nonsensical channel called Satyagrah."
Justice Katju also described Netaji as a "Japanese agent" in his blog site and said, "In fact Bose was being used by the Japanese, and they would have bumped him off the moment his utility for them was over. He was no doubt a brave and personally honest man, but he had become an agent of Japanese fascism."
In January, he was pummeled on social media for sexism after he tweeted that the BJP should have made Shazia Ilmi its Chief Ministerial candidate for the Delhi assembly polls as she is "more beautiful."
