Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati on Monday said that masses would be involved in the massive Ganga rejuvenation programme such as planting of saplings and preventing dirt from mixing up in the river.
"We will be involving people in rejuvenating the river in line with the Prime Minister's call to make it a mass movement... People would be involved in planting of saplings and preventing dirt from entering the river," she told reporters in New Delhi.
However, the ministry would be carrying out the works pertaining to river front development, establishing Sewage Treatment Plant and interceptors, she added.
Earlier, Water Resources Secretary Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said that an online portal for granting No Objection Certificate for extraction of water is expected to be operational by end of this month.
For monitoring the scheme of Ground Water Management and Regulation an online project monitoring system has been developed, he added.
