Ahmedabad: As part of her effort to develop a nationwide image, BSP chief Mayawati is campaigning not just UP, but all over India. On Tuesday, she campaigned in the heart of Modi land.
She held her first election rally in Ahmedabad, the home turf of Narendra Modi and LK Advani.
But she pitted herself only against Advani -- one prime-ministerial candidate versus another.
"L K Advani is talking about bringing black money back. I want to ask him why didn't he bring it back when BJP was in power?" Mayawai said.
BJP leaders have amassed wealth in foreign banks. Like in other states Mayawati is putting up candidates in 18 out of the 26 constituencies.
In the Gujarat assembly elections none of the BSP's 166 candidates won a seat. But Mayawati did dent the Congress vote bank, a fact she is counting on now.
"These parties woo Muslims, tell them about the Sachar Committee report. But these parties will betray you. Once they come to power, they forget everything," she said.
In Gujarat's political space, a third party has always found it difficult to survive, but the BSP believes that Maya's charisma as a mass leader could give the party the necessary impetus and hope that it would work the way brand Modi works for the BJP.
