Lucknow: A mother's pain or a political war of words? The clash between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Maneka Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over being denied access to Varun Gandhi in the Etah jail is getting personal.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief has hit back at Maneka Gandhi, mother of Varun Gandhi.
"Maneka Gandhi is mother of one person, I take care of hundreds," said Mayawati, reacting to Maneka's statement that Mayawati did not understand a mother's pain.
"If Maneka would have brought up Varun well, he would not have landed in jail," she said.
The UP Chief Minister also said that Maneka knows only her pain.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Arun Jaitley also took on Mayawati on the issue of Varun Gandhi on Saturday on the offensie against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
He warned Mayawati that the consequences of her actions will be dire. He also added that there's no alternative to the regional parties in UP, apart from the BJP.
"Indian history shows that torture has never allowed politicians to succeed. NSA and attempt to murder cases against Varun Gandhi is a well thought of ploy," said Jaitley.
