New Delhi:
The Bahujan Samaj Party or BSP supremo Mayawati has ruled out going into alliance with any political party ahead of the 2014 general elections, due by May.
"Regarding Lok Sabha elections, I would like to clarify that my party will not contest in alliance with any other party in the country," Mayawati said.
The BSP chief attacked the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh claiming there has been a rise in crime and corruption in the Akhilesh Yadav regime. "The state is going backwards," she said.
"No one took BSP seriously. But the party gave a memorable government in the history of Uttar Pradesh. We want to do the same in the four (poll-bound) states," the 57-year-old leader said.
Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram go to polls in November and December in what is being considered as the semi-finals before the 2014 elections.
Mayawati called the controversy around her party being allotted a 'super bungalow' in the heart of Delhi as anti-Dalit. "The media is projecting it as a large piece of land. Combining bungalows is not illegal. No one ever talks about others altering bungalows. The land is for a trust in memory of Kanshi Ram ji."
Kanshi Ram, who was Mayawati's political mentor and a major BSP ideologue, died in 2006.
The BSP chief also took a dig at the BJP, saying the party is plagued with differences within. "The troika of Advani, Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh do not agree with each other and are busy cutting each other out," she said.
On the BSP MP Dhananjay Singh, under arrest for the torture and death of a domestic help at his residence, Mayawati said she will take action once the investigation is over.
Mr Singh and his wife Jagriti Singh are currently in police custody.
