Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today lashed out at the Centre accusing it of having an "inconsistent policy" towards Pakistan and claimed the process would not help bring down terror activities, either on the borders or within the country.

"The BJP-led central government has an inconsistent policy towards the neighbours specially Pakistan..... this wrong policy is neither going to help national interest nor it is likely that terror activities on the border or inside the country is going to come down," Ms Mayawati was quoted as saying in a party release.

She said the logic being given by the Centre and BJP leaders behind the visit of the Pakistani Joint Investigation Team (JIT) including an ISI official, to Pathankot airbase, was "unpalatable" to common people.

People are perceiving the "red carpet welcome" to the JIT and taking them to Air Force airbase as "weakness" of the Modi government, Mr Mayawati said, adding they doubt that this "new experiment" will bring any change in the "sour" Indo-Pakistan relationship.

"The BJP and the central government which used to make tall claims on the issue of public interest and welfare have failed in these areas and now they also appear to be compromising on the issue of national interest," she said.
