Mayawati to meet PM, had boycotted price rise meeting

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will come face-to-face with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday, four months after she boycotted a chief ministers' meet called by him on the price rise issue.

Mayawati, along with Governor B L Joshi, will receive the prime minister who will be arriving in the state to attend the convocation ceremony at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur tomorrow.

They would receive the prime minister at Chakeri airport.

The Chief Minister would be receiving the prime minister and her programme has been finalised, sources in the state information department said.

They, however, added that it would be a courtesy meeting and no political meaning should be read into it.

This would be the first time when Mayawati would come face to face with Singh after staying away from the February 6 meeting with the prime minister on price rise issue.

Blaming Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for inflation, Mayawati had demanded his resignation as a pre-condition to attend the chief ministers' meeting.
