Mayo College closes because of swine flu

NDTV Correspondent: The Mayo Girls school in Ajmer and the Mayo College have both shut down after 10 students were found to be H1N1 positive in the girls school.

There has been a huge spurt in H1N1 cases in Rajasthan. In the past two weeks alone, about 693 cases have been reported in the state. Jaipur has been worst hit with 605 cases of which more than 240 are school children.

The school would have been anyway closed after December 5, but the H1N1 cases have led to an early vacation and both these schools will be shut till January 10.

The administration decided to go in for early vacations canceling the annual function, which earlier was to be held on December 4 and 5. And after the cases in Mayo, the government has also closed down all schools in Ajmer for a week.

"The first few cases of H1N1 have been found in Mayo Girls so we have shut down all schools for a week. A team of doctors checked the students in the school. They are fine and are in an isolation ward," said Rajesh Yadav, Collector, Ajmer.

But while other schools may reopen, Mayo will go ahead with vacations till January 10.
