Hundreds of students from various parts of Kashmir appeared for the NEET exam.
Srinagar streets came alive for a few hours on Sunday after 16 straight days of curfew. Hundreds of students from various parts of Kashmir appeared for the NEET medical entrance exams braving the odds against reaching the exam centres amid the lockdown.
"I have come from Shopian with my daughter who is appearing for the exams. I reached here yesterday to ensure that my daughter doesn't miss the exams," said Gulzar Ahmad, a parent from south Kashmir's Shopian district.
Mushtaq Ahmad came with his daughter from a far off Baramulla village. But he managed to reach in time for the exam thanks to the bus the administration had arranged for candidates.
"I am thankful to God that in such a situation we could make to exam centre safely. Deputy commissioner of Baramulla gave us transport to reach here," said Mr Ahmad.
The unrest in Kashmir since the killing of 22-year-old terrorist Burhan Wani earlier this month has affected education. Schools and colleges have been closed for over two weeks.
The state government's move to reopen them has failed due to the curfew and lockdown.
Among the 47 killed and over 2,400 injured in the violence that has raged all over the valley, most were students and young children.
