"I got a phone call from my agency at half seven in the morning saying, I've been contacted by an Indian director, don't get your hopes up just yet but he wants to meet you and cast you for his movie.  I was always focussed on the modelling, and succeeding in that, but now I'm completely focused on making it over in India in the movies," Jackson said.

The film, a romantic period drama set during the British reign of India in 1947 Madras (now Chennai), premiered in the UK a week ago. It released in India in July.

Jackson plays Amy Wilkinson, the daughter of the Madras Presidency Governor, who falls in love with a young dhobi, played by Tamil actor Arya.

Jackson has another five films coming up in India.

"Last week we went over for a tour of south India to visit the cinemas and see the response from the public and it was amazing. There were like three thousand, four thousand fans waiting outside at each one, it was like getting mobbed but it was brilliant," she said.
